Frozen

Spoiler-Free Recommendation: This movie is for easy-to-please children and Idina Menzel super-fans. *A masterpiece.

Review:

Apologies in advance; I don’t like to be negative but Frozen is not a good movie. True ‘fun for the whole family’ films have quality stories, are entertaining & clever, and sure … just so happen to have highly merchandise-able, colorful characters in a rich world for the kids to enjoy.

Not every Disney movie can be an instant classic (I guess half the world didn’t get that memo), but they should at least get the colorful part right … right? I like the notion that they blew the budget on Idina Menzel (credit: Avery Gomez) and couldn’t then afford another 10 passes at the script, animating a visually interesting world, heart/logic, etc. ‘Let it Go’ is painful to listen to. It’s a shame there is no convincing emotional build-up followed by no emotional payoff.

The best thing the Frozen production has done is convince the public that they love it: a marketing masterpiece*
